Re: The largest trade-book publisher in the US

If you're looking ONLY at mechanics (always a bad idea), then, sure, those things look parallel. The problem is that they shouldn't be parallel. A "digital imprint division" does just that-- imprinting. Publishing. An imprint division doesn't sell books. Hi Ron, I still cannot eliminate E...

Confusions about comparison objects

Hi instructor, I met with below two sentences when I were doing GMAT SC practices:

[redacted]

Both of these two sentences are from correct answers. I am now very confused about the comparison objects.

[redacted]

Now I am totally confused... :(

Please help me, thank you very much!

Re: The largest trade-book publisher in the US

I still cannot eliminate E. Does imprint division publish books? I agree with you an imprint division does not sell books, but I don't think they publish books. "digital" = electronic/computerized "imprint(ing)" = printing/publishing there's no 'i think x' or 'i don't think y' h...

Re: In her 26 years in the forests of Gombe

Hi Instructor, Can you please tell me if "by imitating and practicing" is better than "by imitation and practice"? I learn from Thursday with Ron that Verbal Nouns are impersonal, and Gerund Forms convey the idea that the subject is directly involved in the process. Here I think ...

Re: thirteen colonies

Hi Ron, would you please explain why C is wrong? Isn't "some that formed..." a noun modifier, so that the construction of "NOUNs, each VERB..." still work?

Hi Ron, could you please explain more about why "proven records that they..." is unidiomatic? Than you very much.

Re: The loan company

Also, can I state another reason why A and D is incorrect is that "...time, known as..." does not make sense. My understanding is COMMA+VERBed modifies the noun immediately preceding the COMMA, so that its usage is same as "which VERBed". Here the meaning of the sentence becomes ...

Hi Ron, can I confirm that there is nothing wrong with "in producing" and "for their producing of" in choice D and E?

Re: By pressing a tiny amount of nitrogen between two diamonds

"Are" is also necessary in that sentence because of "simply". "Simply" is an adverb that describes the fact that these things are random byproducts; i.e., it describes the verb "are". If you remove "are", then "simply" is an orphan with no...

Re: SC: By merging its two publishing divisions, the

What is wrong with A? I believe that both of the modifiers after the comma -- ",a market ranging" and ",which ranges" work in this case. the modifier in (a) doesn't work. that modifier has to follow "book market" or "market for books". "10 percent" ...

in choice C you have "their" trying to stand for "company".

Re: thirteen colonies

you're making the worst possible SC mistake: you're considering small/subtle things BEFORE big, fundamental, black-and-white things. "its"? yep, there's the problem with C. You are correct, Ron! I do have this problem!! Actually I feel suffered when I am doing sentence correction question...

[Incorrect] 2) The building WAS DEMOLISHED to keep it from falling do accidentally. [Correct] Here I understand it makes n...
