Feeling a little overwhelmed and dismayed here. With a 600 GMAT score, what are my chances at top 20 or 30 schools (UNC, UT-Austin). The rest of my profile is, I believe, really strong and unique.
I'm a 28 year old female, currently working for a fashion magazine, was a fine art major, undergrad GPA 3.9, strong ec's (volunteer work, marathon running, etc). Marketing is my career goal, and I'm not overly concerned about writing compelling essays, creativity and "having a way with words" is just something I've always been good at. My huge negative check mark is that pesky GMAT.
Words of advice? Give it a shot? Retake the test (not sure if I have time to study enough to increase my score), and... just for kicks... what would my chances be at Duke or Ross with a 600?

That's tough.
You still have an outside chance, although keep in mind that only 10% of admitted students at the top schools have scores of 660 or lower at places like Duke or Ross (middle 80% is around 660-760 across all top16 schools). For schools like UNC or UT, you should have a better shot since their middle 80% is around 600-700, so you're skirting the bottom 10% for GMAT scores.
If you don't think you can raise your score without significant effort and time, then roll the dice and just apply -- just know that it'll be even more subjective because an adcom will have to be willing to overlook your GMAT, which really comes down to the individuals reviewing your application.
