60-Point CAT Score Drop - Help?

by vincentvbarr Fri Nov 04, 2011 4:58 pm

Hi all,

I just finished taking my third CAT exam, and the results are pretty discouraging. I scored a 650 (43Q/36V). This Sunday is my last MGMAT class and I have a test date scheduled for 12/8, so I'm a little worried.

This time around the quant section just felt "bad," like I forgot a lot of material. I don't know how else to explain it. After reviewing, it looks like my verbal mistakes were mainly careless ones and I should have gotten 3-4 of those questions right.

2nd CAT: 10/23/2011 - 710 (44Q/42V)

Diagnostic: 9/8/2011 - 570 (33Q/35V)

Use the below article to analyze your most recent test, then come back here and tell us what you discovered:

It sounds like you may have been a bit burned out / mentally fatigued. Maybe that also led to timing problems? If you do have any timing problems, read this and start doing what it says:

Was there anything else different? Did you skip the essays on the higher-scoring test but do them on the lower-scoring test? Did you stick to the normal break timelines or give yourself more time on break? Etc - basically, was there anything that might have contributed to an artificial advantage on the higher test or an artificial disadvantage on the lower test?

Note that you'll also have the opportunity to sign up for a Post Course Assessment (a test review) with your teacher at the end of the course. Ask him or her about this at your next class.
