Absolute value question - What is UP??

by soobyoutback Thu Oct 22, 2009 7:46 pm

I found a problem today that I think may have typos in the answer - at least I hope so. Can anyone shine some light on this??

Of the five coordinates associated with points A, B, C, D and E - which has the greatest absolute value?
A= -2
B= -1
C= 0
D= 1
E= 2

Correct answer is A - stating that "The coordinate of point A is farthest from 0 and thus has the greatest absolute value." WHAT??

2 and -2 are equally far from 0 as far as I know....

Thank you!

Hi, this doesn't sound right. Was there any picture given along with the question?

You are correct; this problem does not seem to be correct. Both and 2 and -2 are the same distance from 0, and their absolute values would be equal.
