Advanced GMAT Quant Book

by g_bethanis Wed Nov 14, 2012 3:14 pm

I have had a look at that book and I find the problems there really hard. Looking at the long solutions, many of those questions would take more than 2 minutes to be solved too.
On the other hand, I have been looking at and solving questions of past GMAT exams and I haven't found questions to be THAT difficult..
Are there really such difficult questions on the GMAT?? Perhaps on the 99% percentile only??

I have also been looking at the "advanced" sections of the strategy guides. Those questions are still hard but still easier than those on the Advanced GMAT Quant Book, right?

If I didn't study any of the Advanced GMAT Quant Book, would I have any chance of scoring more than 90% percentile in Quant? Assume that I will have studied the whole of the Quant strategy guides (normal and advanced material)??
What if I didn't study the "advanced" strategy guide material which I also find quite hard?

Thanks!

I just read a post that said that we can't post in this folder anymore? Is that true? On the other hand, I have seen other recent posts in this folder.

Should I be expecting an answer here or post the same thing in some other folder?

the fact that you posted here means that your assumption that you can't post is false. critical reasoning! :)

as for the advanced quant questions, you will only see such difficult questions with any regularity if you are doing well enough on the test that the GMAT has to give you such difficult questions. if that is the case, you will likely have answered many other questions fast enough that you have time to spend a little more effort on the most difficult ones. there is no reason to think you must answer every question in less than two minutes, only that you need to average two minutes..

Thank you Tim!

Would you suspect that it's possible to receive such hard questions (similar to those in the Advanced Quant book) when you are doing lower than the 90% percentile during the exam?

it's possible, it's just that the likelihood increases the higher your percentile gets..
