Advice Before Test Day

by july2014gmat Sun Jun 22, 2014 3:12 pm

I have two weeks until my official test and I will likely take one last GMAT Prep test next weekend. My three scores on the GMAT prep tests so far have been the following (these were all taken after a few months of studying, with 1 - 2 weeks of light studying between tests):

-740 (48 Q, 44 V)
-740 (50 Q, 40 V)
-740 (49 Q, 42 V)

In addition to taking the last GMAT prep, I'll use these last two weeks to review materials/questions (from the OGs and practice tests that I've previously answered incorrectly), focusing on weak areas, including quant (since there seems to be more room for improvement here from a percentile perspective). Any other advice given that I've scored pretty consistently on practice tests in this last month leading up to the test? I'd like to improve my score 20 points, if possible, as it seems like I could manage my time a bit better/make fewer careless errors when I have been reviewing my practice tests.

Thanks!

For the last two weeks, you have two major focuses. (Foci?) :)

1) Review content and strategies.
2) Low-hanging fruit (aka careless mistakes).

For #1, read these two articles and do what they say:

For #2, just constantly keep in mind that you are NOT trying to turn your biggest weaknesses around at this point. They are what they are. Bail.

You are trying to minimize careless mistakes (as you say), make sure you make good decisions about where to spend your time and mental energy, etc. Basically, your goal is to tweak the places where you're almost there and make them work.

Time management. The first article is short and sweet but if you can master that mindset, you'll be in good shape. The second is quite long, but read through and figure out what's stymieing you right now that you can actually fix in 2 weeks. :)

Remember, your focus is not on the big weaknesses any longer! Leave them be. (Or postpone your test if you *really* want to take the time to improve that kind of stuff.)
