Advice needed!!!

by b2.beyondeternity Tue Dec 31, 2013 7:59 am

Hi,
Below are my details.
Grad.: 7.0 GPA
Nationality: Indian
Exp.: 2 years in IT company
GMAT: 690 (V34,Q50)
Target: Full Time MBA INSEAD, Full Time MBA LBU.

Can you please tell me whether this is possible. Should I start working on essays and profile or this is a lost cause? I've done my best in GMAT, wasn't able to score a 660 ever in any mock but miraculously got a 690 in the real thing.

Also, could you please suggest me alternate top universities that'll take me with this profile.

Thanks & Regards,
Saurabh

Hi there,

Thanks for your post. Congrats on scoring higher than your mock exams! A 690 is respectable and doesn't knock you out of consideration at INSEAD or, did you mean LBS??

However your experience doesn't sound particularly extensive or unique; without knowing more about you I would say schools want to see how you've progressed in responsibilities and achievements at work, and evidence of leadership potential. With a very strong application and essays there's always a chance, but you would definitely want to see what you could do within the essays to show how you are unique compared with other Indian IT applicants, of which there are many.

Look at schools outside the top 10-15 in the US for more ideas. Check out the US News & World report rankings. Think about your post MBA goals and what schools would help you achieve those. Tepper, Carey come to mind? Ross? But there are so many aspects to consider. Good luck to you!!

Happy New Year!
