Algebra functions

by sugannanjappa Thu Mar 28, 2013 11:30 am

Can someone please help me out in finding the solution and explanation for the following function problem.

For which of the following functions does f(a+b)=f(a)+f(b)?

(a)f(x)=x*x
(b)f(x)=x+1
(c)f(x)=square root of x
(d)f(x)=2/x
(e)f(x)=-3x

Thanks for the reply.

This problem appears in GMAT prep2 software.
Considering a+b as x and I tried to switch a+b in all places of x but I am clueless how to solve this problem.
Please help me out.

Next time, please post your question in the appropriate forum. We have a forum for GMAT Prep questions. As for this question, what results did you get when you plugged in a+b, a, and b for x?
