Apples and Mangoes!

by PudGe Tue May 29, 2012 3:32 am

A person buys some Apples and Mangoes from the market. Cost price of a Mango is twice that of an Apple and the selling price is thrice that of an Apple. The selling price of apple is twice the cost price of apple and he makes the profit of 150 % on the whole. What is the ratio of number of mangoes to the number of apples ?

a) 3:5

b) 3:4

c) 1:2

d) 2:3

e) 2:5

I am not really sure how to go about this!

oki let me see if i can help u
consider the following :
no. of apples bought = a
no. of mangoes bought =b
cost of one apple =1
therefore selling price of one apple =2(as per conditions )
cost of one mango=2 (as per conditions )
selling price of one mango =6 (as per condition )
total cost price =a+2b
total selling price =2a+6b
so profit is =a+4b
so (a + 4b )/(a+2b) =150 /100
solving this we get b/a = 1/2
