Applying Internationally

by Dshelly77 Sat Jan 12, 2008 3:57 am

Greetings,

I'm considering applying internationally, specifically to IESE in Barcelona Spain.

My profile

GMAT 520 (Taking the test again in February, currently scoring around 590 on MGMAT CAT exams)
GPA 3.0
Work Experience 7 years
Position Sr. Credit Analyst in one of the top three Banks in the world
volunteer three times a week tutoring high school students in Math and science
No international experience.

I am applying for the fall 2009. Could you review my profile? I sort of need some direction with this. I recently decided to go the full time track and would really like to get the international experience.

Thank you

Thank you for your inquiry.

While your work experience and volunteer experience are both strong, you seem to have a problem with your grades and GMAT. With IESE’s average GMAT score being 670+, a 520 and even your proposed 590, is well below their average and 30 points lower than the bottom end of the middle 80th percent of their class. IESE does not seem to publish its average GPA numbers, but your 3.0 is probably under its average.

If I were you, I would certainly work as hard as possible on the GMAT and I would consider some supplemental classes as well. It seems to me that this is all that might be holding you back from acceptance to this school ad your work and community experiences standout compared to most IESE applicants.

Sincerely,

Thank you for your response.

While my GPA is a 3.0, I have taken many classes since graduating from undergrad. I do not know how the additionally classes would affect my GPA. I've taken 6 undergrad classes, mostly in Finance and Accounting. Should I find out what these additional grades would add to my GPA? Would that make a difference? My last class was in 2006. I went through a financial analyst training program from 2006-Late 2007.

In addition to IESE, I am applying to Zilkin (Baruch), Kellogg (NW), Ross (Michigan) and Kellstadt (DePaul).

Based on my profile are Kellogg and Ross that far out of reach?

Thank you!
