Are x,y and z different integers?

by PetriF258 Wed Nov 05, 2014 12:03 pm

First off, my apologies for posting my previous question in the wrong forum. I did however sort out the MGMAT guide related question.

I now just have general query. If a question states that x,y and z are integers, may I assume that x,y and z different integers? Or could they possibly be the same integer?

Thanks

you can actually figure this out by yourself.

analogy:
if a "no left turn" sign is posted somewhere, then, by default, left turns normally ARE allowed. (otherwise the sign would be superfluous.)
on the other hand, if left turns are allowed normally, you'll never see a "left turns allowed" sign.

analogously, you'll note that problems often say "x and y are different integers".
if they have to say this, then you can infer that, by default, they're allowed to be the same.
