arithmetic practice resources

by pmcaravaggio Wed Apr 17, 2013 12:19 am

I have noticed I am having trouble doing the arithmetic on some -harder- problems. Does anyone have advice for how to improve arithmetic skills? I have gone through the foundations and am able to do every problem correctly fairly quickly. I am looking for a resource with a bank of harder arithmetic questions that I can work through (i.e. where the arithmetic is just as hard if not harder than what will be required on the most arithmetically involved questions on the actual exam). Any other general suggestions on how to get really good at arithmetic would be appreciated.

Thanks

when you say "arithmetic", what exactly are you talking about? i'm curious, because it's extremely uncommon for GMAT problems to contain arithmetic that takes more than, say, 10-20 seconds' worth of work. if you are worried about 10 or 20 seconds here and there, well, don't be.

in any case, your best bet may be to go down to the local public library, check out a pre-algebra book, and flip to the challenge problems in the chapters that deal with the relevant material.

by the way, older books = better.
challenge problems have slowly been eradicated from american textbooks over the last 10 to 20 years, so, if you can find a book dating from before 1980, that's best.

you can also try searching the internet, too; the internet is rife with practice exercises for just about anything, especially things like arithmetic.
