Taste buds are onion-shaped structures with between 50 and 100 taste cells, each of [u]them has fingerlike projections poking through the opening located at the top of the taste bud called the taste pore.[u/]

A. them has fingerlike projections poking through the opening located at the top of the taste bud called the taste pore
B. them that have fingerlike projections that poke through an opening located at the top of the taste bud, which they call the taste pore
C. which has fingerlike projections poking through the opening, called the taste pore, located at the top of taste bud
D. which having fingerlike projections that poke through an opening, which is called the taste pore, located at the top of the taste bud
E. which have fingerlike projections that are poking through an opening located at the top of the taste bud called the taste pore
in 139, it is clear that located directly modify opening without jumping for meaning.
hi ron or other mentors, both 139 and 111 from GMATPREP
.
I want to ask about modifers,
in111,B and E were confusing. But,B) that a star as bright as the full moon exploded into view 340,000 years ago, emitting, some one says that exploded can jump to modify---> star, but in D, that exploded can not jump. But why, can past participle can jump? Iguess it is depended on meaning. I mean in logic, the exploded---> star, so it can jump, right? but in E, why "that exploded" can not jump to modify star according to logic?

Hi,

You have listed two questions together without specifying how they are related. If your query is about the first question only, then please note that there is a post that already exists for that question. Please ask your question in this post:

astronomers-have-uncovered-evidence-that-a-star-that-t4483.html

Thanks

you're mistakenly identifying "exploded" as a participle/modifier, when in (b) it is in fact a verb.

the part that follows "Astronomers have uncovered evidence that" is a complete sentence; identify its subject and verb, and you'll get the point.

Oooooooooooooh, YES RON,I recently find out that I always treat VERBed as modifer like past participle, so next time I will focus on find subject and mainverb at first, if verb has been here, I will rethink about modifer. thanks ron really help
