B-school Profile Eval: 760 GMAT

by gradschool212 Mon Sep 10, 2012 6:50 pm

Do I have a shot at Stern or Columbia?

GMAT: 760 GMAT
Education: Undergrad dual major in Finance and Econ from a top 40 private school (top 25 undergrad business program ranking), but only a 3.2 GPA (3.5 in Finance, 3.3 in Econ)
Work Experience: 4 years in Corporate Finance/Accounting from a public company with $50+ billion market cap. 3 promotions. Responsibilities that exceed many of my peers at my level, but no management experience.
Extracurricular activities: Non-existent, but I plan on spending the next year working on that before I apply.

Hi,

Yes I do think you have a shot at Stern and possibly even at Columbia! Your GMAT is great and your GPA, though slightly low, is definitely something you can overcome (I think your GMAT accomplishes that). Professionally, as long as you have very strong leadership and team stories, you should be a good place. And if you really build up the extracurricular and community leadership domains, you should be in good shape. Columbia is not a guarantee, but a possibility, and I think you'll be quite competitive at NYU once you've strengthened your non-work profile.

Good luck!
Mili
