BACKUP METHODS

by raviram1980 Fri May 04, 2012 4:41 pm

Hi Instructors,

Just like there is a backup methods study hall with Ron and involve some examples from divisibility, primes, geometry etc, is there a backup method approach for solving probability and permutation/combination problems.

Thanks
Ravi

For some probability problems you can actually write out the different possibilities and decide which ones fit your desired criteria. For example, if you flip a coin three times, what is the probability of getting at least one head? You can list the different outcomes and count the number that contain at least one head.

Most combinatorics problems are going to be pretty tough to do without using formulas. However, I think that some common sense answer eliminations can often help you make a better guess.
