BEST WAY TO USE THIS QUANT PREP FORUM?

by kshitijg17 Mon Aug 17, 2015 2:53 am

I have a query with respect to this sub forum specifically. I try to solve about 10 questions a day from this forum specifically to try and keep my quant preparation as close as possible to the actual GMAT questions. And I must also say that the instructors are doing a commendable job. However, it just struck me that some of the questions I see here are about 5 or more years old. Kindly advise if I am wasting time on those old questions in case they are irrelevant now and if so should I consciously make an effort to solve questions from within a time span of 2 years or so?

TIA
hope I haven't posted at the incorrect place..
if so .. my sincere apologies

You have posted in the wrong place, but I'll just lock this thread so we don't clutter up the GMAT Prep forum with an off-topic thread.

First, we're glad to have you on the forums, and thanks for trying to be conscientious about where to post. Be sure to check out the rules for each forum before posting to ensure you're posting in the right place.

As for your question, math problems pretty much don't get outdated, so have at it! Remember, the point of studying math questions is so you can apply the factual knowledge and problem solving skills you've accumulated on actual GMAT-type problems. As long as you are getting this experience (and reviewing every problem thoroughly), the problems you are working on are likely to be worthwhile.

The VAST majority of GMAC's official problems—including a sizable majority of the problems in the books that just came out—are more than 5 years old.

On the other hand, you should be wary of older problems that have been purged from the newer editions of the books.
if these are math questions then nothing bad will probably come of studying them. DO NOT, however, study verbal problems that have been removed, especially in SC (the only area in which the test's priorities have shifted significantly over the last 10 years).
