Choices of references

by monica1015124 Sun Oct 20, 2013 7:37 am

Thank you in advance.

I am a full-time student so I do not have any working experience, except for internships.

Both of my former internship supervisors agree to write recommendations for me(truly grateful).

However, I can not decide between the two references.

1. CFO of a fortune 500 company (Taiwan branch)
I have only worked for the company for 1 month(full-time during winter vacation). Although I stay in touch with the CFO and he knows me (more about my personalities and qualities, I think)even more after the internship, I am afraid that 1 month may seem too short to illustrate professional experience.
But on the other hand, the CFO rarely writes recommendations for interns and I really value the opportunity to have a CFO to be my reference.

2. Senior consultant of a consulting firm
I have worked for the consulting firm for 4 months and I joined several projects with the senior consultant. Although the title may not be as big as the CFO, I believe I have more professional achievements in the internship.

I am grateful for both of the references. But I am having a hard time deciding who to choose.

Thank you so much for the help!

Hi there,

Good questions; in general you want the person who you think will write you the best reference, regardless of title... someone who knows you well and can comment on your traits and strengths and weaknesses, and someone who will provide concrete examples and anecdotes of what you've done.

Also, many apps ask for 2 references? So maybe you could use both?

Good luck!
