Consecutive integers

by GonzaloB919 Mon Mar 16, 2015 5:56 pm

If I know that x, y and z are consecutive integers and they are in that same order. Then I have to determine the average of this set of numbers.
Question: It is enough to know what is X?. I know that the average number will be Y but if x is 11, Y could be 12 and Z could be 13. Moreover, if X is 11, Y could be 13 and Z could be 15...
Am I correct? thinking that every set of consecutive integers is where the same space is between each of them??

Hope is clear...

Thanks in advance!

nope.
"consecutive ___'s" means one ___, and then the NEXT ___, and then the NEXT ___ after that, and so on.

e.g., "three consecutive months, beginning with march" is definitely march, april, and may.

so, if you have 3 consecutive integers starting with 11, then they are definitely 11, 12, and 13.

do note that 11, 13, and 15 are consecutive odd integers (since they are in fact one odd integer, and then the NEXT odd integer, and then the next odd integer after that one).

as one consequence, if you have consecutive odd integers, then those same numbers can never be "consecutive integers" (since they differ by 2 rather than by 1).

Thank you Ron! I had a wrong approach to this concept..
