Could someone please explain this problem from MGMAT CAT 2

If the dishwasher is currently running and has 55 minutes remaining in its cycle, can Patrick complete all of the tasks before his guests arrive in exactly 1 hour?

(1) Vacuuming the floors and folding the laundry will take Patrick 36 minutes.

(2) Putting away the dishes will take Patrick 7 minutes.

hint- he has only 5 min left after dishwashing is over (i.e. 55 min later)
statement 1- it will take 36 min to finish these 2 tasks (can be done in dishwashing's 5 min), but what about the iiird one? it can take 2 min or can take 15 min - no data provided - so this statement can't answer our question

statement 2- whether he is able to finish the other two tasks on time or not, no clue
but one thing is there for sure, he can't put away dishes in remaining 5 min (60min-55min).
so this statement answers our question - he can't finish all the 3 tasks

Exactly. (2) gives a definite no, regardless of the non-dishwashing tasks duration. If you selected (C) or (D) here, you primarily fell prey to a DS logic error: carry-over of statement (1).

Stmt1 says 'Vacuuming the floors and folding the laundry will take Patrick 36 minutes'-which means 55 mins left for the dishwater to finish its cycle + 36 mins thus greater than 60 mins and so A is sufficient.
Can someone explain this?

you're misinterpreting the problem statement. the sentence you quoted should be understood thus: patrick can
1/
vacuum the floors (whenever)
2/
fold the laundry (whenever)
3/
put away the dishes after the dishwasher completes its cycle

this is a better interpretation than the one you got, because it agrees with common sense. (the first 2 tasks don't have anything to do with the dishwasher, so "he has to wait until the dishwasher is done before doing any of these 3 things" is an implausible interpretation.)
