Critical Reasoning Guide, Strategy

by j.bold Mon Sep 16, 2013 4:17 pm

Hey everybody,
I almost worked through the whole CR guide and the strategies (deconstruct the argument, make little notes while reading the argument) make sense but it is very time consuming and I cannot implement all suggestions that are made in the guide because they slow me down.
Does anybody have the same problem, how do you tackle CR questions?

Hey,
This folder is for discussing specific problems. For general strategy questions, please post in the General Strategy Questions folder (= the top folder on the forum home page).
Thanks.

Short answer: CR tests normal human thought processes. Everything you need to solve these problems, you already know; trying to "systematize" them will generally make them more difficult.
You should view the things in the book as strategies that can help you if you get confused. But your #1 strategy should be "read the words; understand them; answer the question".
The way you'd proceed in, say, an interview, or a business-school case study. (In either of those two environments, the idea of "classifying" or "systematizing" questions would be absolutely unthinkable.)

If you need more than that, please post your question in the General Questions folder. Thanks.

By the way, I noticed that this is your first post here. Welcome to forum-land.
