* Data Sufficiency Question

by pradeep_asnani Sat Jan 16, 2010 8:27 am

if X and Y are positive, is X3> y?

1) SQRT X > Y
2) X > Y

The given answer is E which is including both the options answer can not be obtained but I feel that answer should be C which is including both the options answer can be obtained Since only values of X which can satisft both the criteria will be greater than 1.

Hi,

Let us consider the case where 0<y<sqrt(x)<1

In this case x could be greater or less than y, x^2 and x^3 are still smaller numbers and we cannot say whether they are > y. So, even if you take 1) and 2), you cannot be sure.Hence E.
