Distinct factors of any given number

by Deepak_J_Shah Fri Mar 13, 2009 3:38 pm

for n>2, and if n is even, the distinct factors of n are 2 and n, and their difference is always even
(according to solution of a given problem)

pick 10 so, diff of 2 and 10 is = 8 is always even - fine

But, the total factors of 10 are (1,2,5, and 10)
so why are the other factors of 10 not considered (say 5,10) - cause that difference would be odd!!!

We are only supposed to consider "distinct factors" - is that the reason ? and if so, what does "distinct factor" really mean?

Thank you
Deepak
