I am a 23 year old applying to business school. I am applying for Aug 2008 for 2 year full time programs. At that time have 1.5 years of work experience. I currently have a full time job as a contract employee. Not the best choice I made in a first job, but it is at a very well known company. My current position is not one that allows opportunity to be innovative, creative or take on a leadership role. My boss gives me a task and I complete it. I have tired to take on more responsibility outside of my roles but hit roadblocks because of current work load and not being a permanent employee. ( very Frustrating)
My family has started a business, and I am hoping to prepare myself to take over in the next few years. I graduated undergrad with a science degree in Biochemistry and a minor in business. I would like to get an MBA to gain much needed knowledge to be successful. I have spent much time gathering information about schools, and to me, there is much emphasis on applications showing growth in a position and what a person has to offer as a student to the programs value itself. I feel that I am missing that key. I just know within myself that an MBA is what I need to get where I need to go. I dont think a top 50 business school wants to hear that. Waiting a few more years is not an option for me, I need to get started on this as soon as possible.
I very overwhelmed. My reason for wanting to go to business school is not to make myself more marketable in the job market. I know what I want out of a program, but I am not sure I have what school needs to even get through the front door or how I could convince a school that I am ready to take this step. I am also problems finding someone to write me a recommendation who can speak to my professional abilities, due to the current job I have.
Can someone offer me some suggestions on tackling my applications, Essays ( since I do not have much post grad. work exp. to pull form), and recommendations. Please reply to sywillis16@yahoo.com.
Thank you so much for any help.
