DS:What are the values of x and y?

What are the values of x and y ?
1. x squared + y squared = 0
2. x squared - y squared =0

ans A.SOmebody pls explain.

The source is a local compilation of sums for the CAT test.This sounds like a GMAT level problem so was trying my hand.Pls lemme kno the solution.Thnks!

x^2+Y^2=0 menas X and Y needs to be 0
X^2-Y^2=0 means X^2=Y^2 hence X and Y can be any no.
