Ending a sentence with a possessive

by Guest Sat Jun 07, 2008 10:12 am

I got the following SC question on GMAT prep.

"Besides adding complementary flavors to many foods, hot sauces stimulate the release of endorphins in the brain, just as exercise does, and these have a pain-relieving effect, like morphine's "

I cannot understand why the sentence is correct. Is is ok to end with a possessive? like morphine's

3 of the other choices were out straight away because of a misplaced modifier. It was between the original sentence and another one which used "like exercise" instead of "just as". I chose the latter because it did not end with a possessive.

if you have the og11 verbal supplement, take a look at problem 59 in there; in the correct answer, the main clause (which constitutes a sentence in its own right) ends this way.
