How do you know that for:
a+b[/u]b=21 that a[/u]b is 20?

Simply break it apart.

We start with (a+b)/b = 21.

Break this into a/b + b/b = 21
Now, see that b/b = 1.
So, we really have a/b + 1 = 21
and thus a/b = 20.
