It is not graded in the MGMAT CAT exams. You can purchase GMATWrite from mba.com and that uses the same algorithm used on the actual exam. I will say that when I used this program I got a 4.5 (which essentially "checks the AWA box" for the purposes of B-School) and when I took the actual exam I got a 6.0, which is the highest score possible.

thanks for replying, Dillon

If you're in our class, you'll have an opportunity to get essays graded and get written feedback during the course (after class 6).

As Dillon said, you can also get essays graded by GMAT Write (the official essay grading service from the makers of the exam) - they'll both grade the essays and provide feedback as to how to improve (for a fee). For details and pricing, go to www.mba.com and search for GMAT Write.
