General Question on Data Sufficiency Type Questions

by Aaron Mon Dec 08, 2008 5:25 pm

Hi,

This is a general question I have about data sufficiency type questions where both statements satisfy the question. This really only applies to all questions that have a correct ansewr of "D"

If I have a hypothetical data sufficiency question that asks, "Is x<1?". Meaning, the test-taker needs to figure out, definitively, if "x<1" is it ever possible that the answer you correctly deduce for Statement 1 could contradict what is correctly deduced in Statement 2?

Meaning, in Statement 1 you find that "Yes, X is indeed less than 1". However, in Statement 2 you find that "No, X is not less than 1."

If they contradict, is it probably a sign that you need to go back and re-check your work?

Thanks,
Aaron

Hi Aaron,
Great question. No, the statements cannot contradict. If you find that they do, you have made some sort of error.
