GEOMETRY QUESTION HELP ! OFFICIAL GUIDE

OFFICIAL GUIDE 12th ED Q. 39 .

In the figure above, the point on segment PQ that is twice as far from P as from Q is .

I dont understand how these questions are being solved.

Is there a formula ?
