Geometry Strategy Guide 6th Ed: Ch. 1 #7

by Pedro Mon Nov 23, 2015 8:13 pm

What is the area of triangle ABC (see figure above)? (1) DC = 20 (2) AC = 8

(2014-12-02). GMAT Geometry (Manhattan Prep GMAT Strategy Guides) (Kindle Locations 265-267). Manhattan Prep Publishing. Kindle Edition.

My question is about the similarity of these 2 triangles. I understand how 2 triangles can be similar if they have 2 angles in common. I see that both have a right angle, and that when we put things in terms of x, they congruent angles are apparent.

However -- would they still be similar if the "span" at point C weren't 90 degrees?

Thank you!

hi,
please post a screenshot of the diagram.

if you're viewing the kindle edition, you should be able to take a screenshot of the diagram.
if you don't know how to embed it here, you can always post it to an image-hosting site (such as postimage.org) and then post a link here.

thanks.
