GMAT Score Results

by sophia.lin12345 Wed Oct 16, 2013 12:27 pm

Official score report came in. Got a GMAT score of 640.

Score Breakdown:
AWA - 5
Integrated Reasoning - 3
Quantitative - 45
Verbal - 33

This has been consistent with my score results on the practice exams.

Concerns:

1. I have a low integrated reasoning score. How much will business schools take that into account?
2. My verbal is low compared to my quantitative...will business schools take that into account?

However, despite the above concerns, I am planning to apply to business schools with an average GMAT score of 640, 650 or whose score ranges include a GMAT score of 640-650, so I am not sure if I should re-take the exam. What do you think?

We haven't heard yet of any schools that are planning to use IR this year, but that could change. The Quant and Verbal scores are still more important in general.

Your verbal score is actually slightly *higher* than your quant score! The two sections don't use the same scale - look at the percentile rankings to compare. Your verbal score is 68th percentile and your quant is 66th percentile.

In general, the schools like to see more "balanced" scores more than they like to see one super high score and one much lower score. Your scores are balanced, so that's good.

I'm not an admissions consultant, however, so you should actually go discuss your admissions questions with someone who specializes in this area! We've got a folder called "Ask An Admissions Consultant." I believe mbaMission also offers free consultations - check out their website.
