Guide 4 - Page 73 - Combinatorics Strategy

by dghosh2602 Fri May 21, 2010 2:42 pm

How can I solve Guide 4 - Page 73 - Combinatorics Strategy problem:

Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby and Cindy go to a movie and sit next to each other in 6 adjacent seats. If Marcia and Jan will not sit next to each other, in how many arrangements can they sit?

How can I solve this problem using the Slot Method?

Thanks,
Deepak

Why do you feel you must use the slot method? You need to learn how to think about each combinatorics problem and analyze what will be the best way to solve it. If you get too attached to one method or another to solve problems, you will find that it severely constrains what you are able to do, not only on the GMAT but with life in general.. :)
