In Hungary, as in much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women work, many of which are in middle management and light industry.
A. as in much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women work, many of which are in
B. as with much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women works, many in
C. as in much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women work, many of them in.
D. like much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women works, and many are.
E. like much of Eastern Europe, an overwhelming proportion of women work, many are in.

The OA is C. Could someone please explain why is choice B wrong?

as in > as with - we are comparing what is happening in hungary with what is happening IN eastern europe, not with eastern europe

proportion of women works not work - although proportion is a singular word, the proportion of women repersents a number of a different people = plural = needs to agree properly with the verb.

many in - think thats a fragment but someone else can correct me

also, please search the forum next time before you post; it's not good to have a bunch of small threads flying around concerning the same problem.

i'm going to lock this thread; if you still have questions after reading the posts on the linked thread, then post your questions on that thread.
thanks.
