Ideal Time To Register For the GMAT

by orestom Mon Jun 15, 2009 12:33 am

How many days / weeks after the end of my MGMAT class should I take the official GMAT exam? I will have learned everything in the strategy guides by the end of my class, but taken only one full practice exam.

Idela time is you should take the exam within 1-2 months after your course. And re. the test you will take 3 exams by the end of the class.

I agree that the ideal is to take the exam within about 3-4 weeks after the end of the course, but this can really vary from person to person, depending upon how much time you've been able to study, how much review you want to do, whether you have to "catch up" on missed assignments from the course, etc.

You also need to factor in what you want to score on the official test vs. what you're scoring on your pratice exams.

Because you've only taken one exam so far, we can't really answer the question "when should I take the official test?" After you've taken your next practice exam, see where you are and compare that to where you'd like to be. Then, take a look at your schedule and see how much time you're going to be able to devote to studying in order to get to where you want to be.

The length of time you'll need will be dependent upon (a) the amount of improvement you're trying to make (higher improvement = more time needed) and (b) the amount of time you have to study every day or week (less time to study = more time needed before you're ready).

If you'd like to discuss these variables once you've taken your next practice test, please come back in, let us know the results and your goals, and we'll help you figure it out!
