Identifying whether the passage is long or short

Hello Instructors,

I just started working on GMAT. Let me question in the RC section.
I read the text below as guidelines.

1. Before you read each passage, identify whether it is long or short.
2. .....

How do I identify whether it is long or short? I think the purpose of identifying is how long I can use the passage.

Do I decide it by counting the number of paragraph?
I read: short passage 2~3, long passage 3~4.
