In the triangle below, BX is perpendicular to AY

In the triangle below, BX is perpendicular to AY. What is the ratio of the legnth of BA to the length of BY.

1) The length of AX is twice the length of XY
2) The Square of the length of AY is equal to the sume of the squares of the lengths of BA and BY

This is actually a Geometry Extra credit problem. My question is I understand that triangle ABX and BXY are similar becuase triangle ABY is a right traingle that contains both previous triangles. However shouldn't the similar sides be AX/BX = XY/BX? For some reason the Explanation says that AX/BX=BX/XY. The right angle is BXA and BXY therefore if we draw out the triangles it seems the previous comparison would be correct.
