I am having trouble deciding when I should consider 1 a prime number and when I shouldn't. Is prime different than a factor?
Also, is 0 an even number?
Q1 : I am having trouble deciding when I should consider 1 a prime number and when I shouldn't
Answer is no, by definition a prime number has 2 factors, 1 and itself. Since number 1 has only one factor, its not considered prime.
Q2: Is prime different than a factor?
Any number can have many factors but when factors are simplified and represented by prime numbers, they are called prime factors. lets take example.
12 has many factors such as 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12.
but you want to represent 12 as prime factors then 12 = 2^2 * 3^1
So only 2 & 3 are prime factors of 12.
Q3: Also, is 0 an even number
0 is neither negative nor positive , even number. Just mug it :>
