Is |x-y|>|x|-|y| ?
(1) y < x
(2) xy < 0

Some people are saying B is the answer: http://gmatclub.com/forum/is-x-y-x-y-123108.html#p1201986

But the test conductor is not mentioned that X and Y are integers, so we can consider fraction values for X and Y.

If we consider fraction values like x=1/2 and y=1/3 the answer will be E.

can anyone clarify whether B is answer or E?

It looks like this is a GMAT Prep question, so I'll assume it's okay to discuss it. The answer is B. What I really want to know is:

1) How do you know what the "test conductor" said? You should ALWAYS be wary of any questions you see posted online for which you cannot verify the original source. There are plenty of original sources you can practice from, so it is definitely not worth taking a risk that problems or answers will be transcribed incorrectly in an online forum and that you will learn something incorrectly as a result.

2) Why do you think it matters whether these numbers are fractions or integers?

3) How did you arrive at E as an answer? Testing a single set of values is never enough to conclude that the data is insufficient, especially when the values you test directly contradict one of the statements.
