Kellogg/Booth Chances

by ceulczycki Wed Oct 03, 2012 4:29 pm

I'm looking to pursue a part-time weekend MBA, and am focused on Kellogg and Booth right now. Based on my GMAT score, I may expand to other weekend programs in the midwest (ie, Michigan Ross, Notre Dame Mendoza, Indiana Kelley, Purdue Krannert).

I plan to matriculate in Fall 2013 and will take the GMAT in January after my prep class ends.

25 Female
Undergrad: 3.5 GPA, International Politics, from a second tier state school. Interned with two federal agencies in college, studied abroad, and worked part time every semester.

GMAT: Up in the air. I'm taking a Manhattan GMAT class and will take the test in January. Aiming for 700.

Work experience: 2.5 years at a defense contractor including one promotion, just over a year at a global consulting firm and have been promoted once so far.

Extracurricular: Not great- I was politically active in college and immediately after, so my community experience reflects this. Not much formal extracurriculars since. I took up running after college and have run a few half marathons. I love to travel and have been to 21 countries, most in the last five years.

MBA goals: Stay in management consulting (hence my plan to go part time and continue working).

Hello,

Thanks for sharing your profile. While I don't see anything in your profile (yet) that would take you out of the running at Kellogg's/Booth's part-time programs, I don't see anything that would make you a shoe-in either. Your academics from undergrad are good, but the GMAT sounds like a bit of a wildcard. Your professional experience is good but not necessarily extraordinary, and you don't have much in the way of extracurriculars/community. I think a lot will ride on your GMAT score because there isn't anything (based on my limited knowledge thus far), that truly differentiates you from other applicants. I'd think hard about what makes you unique, and also focus hard on breaking that 700 barrier.

Good luck!
