Math Question - Practice Test

by dloreanbell Sun Jan 26, 2014 11:21 pm

Can someone break down this problem step by step?

A sphere is inscribed in a cube with an edge of 10. What is the shortest possible distance from one of the vertices of the cube to the surface of the sphere?

I do not understand how to get 10 square root 3 for the diagonal diameter through the sphere.

Hi,
This post needs to be fixed in at least 3 ways.

1/
You haven't cited the source of the problem. We need the original source (not another forum -- we need the source where the problem was originally published) before we can continue.

2/
If there are answer choices, we need to see those, too. We also need to see which choice is the official answer. (If this problem is from a practice test, there should definitely be answer choices.)

3/
Please post a description of what you've already tried on this problem. What do you already understand? Where did you get stuck? Etc.

Also, please read the forum rules (first post in every folder, including this one) before proceeding. Thanks.
