Total Wire = 40m
Cut pieces = 20m + 20m

If the cut pieces used to make a circle and square then perimeter of Circle and Square = 20m

Perimeter of Circle (with radius r) = 2 * PI * r = 20
Perimeter of Square(with side length a) = 4 a = 20 ---> 4 a = 2 * PI * r ---> a = PI * r /2

Area of Circle = PI * r^2

Area of Square = a^2 = (PI * r /2)^2 = PI^2 * r^2 / 4

hence Total Area = PI * r^2 + PI^2 * r^2 / 4

Option 3

I think it should be option 4.

Since circle radius is r : Circumference is 2 pi r and remaining length of wire is ( 40 - 2 pi r )

hence area is :

pi * r^2 + (40 - 2*pi*r)^2
