Math strategy guide compared to foundation of math

by david.rupert Mon Feb 27, 2012 11:26 am

Hi,

I just received my study material for the gmat. I was wondering if there is a big difference between the individual math study guides and the foundation of math book. I want to make my studying as efficient as possible. So, if i can get by just using the foundations of math book, i'll just use that. But, i was concerned that i will be missing out on some information if i just used the foundations of math book. Thank you.

Good question! Yes, there is a substantial difference. The Foundations of Math book covers the very basic fundamentals of math for the GMAT--basic arithmetic, equations, geometry, etc. It is a good place to start if you are weak or rusty in math, but it will not be enough to prepare for the GMAT since the material contained is meant to be a basic review and is not as difficult as standard GMAT problems. The Strategy Guides go over five different math topics in much greater detail, and also have much more advanced material in them. I recommend that you use the Foundations of Math guide first to become solid on fundamentals, then use the other five guides for more in-depth, advanced study. Please let me know if you have more questions.
