MGMAT Advanced Quant Chapter5 Problem Set #4

by Ianjjang0123 Fri Oct 10, 2014 3:16 pm

What is the units digit of y?
(1) The units digit of y^2 equals 6.
(2) The units digit of (y + 1)^2 equals 5.

Hello. I got an answer C for this problem because I got two values of the unit digit of y, -6 and 4, in stmt2, and four values, 4,-4,6,and -6, in stmt1, resulting the combined value of the unit digit to 4. However, the answer is E. What's is wrong with my approach?
Thank you in advance.

First, this question is posted in the wrong forum so the topic is now locked. Please read what you wrote; *your own calculations* suggest there are two values and hence the answer is E. If you have further questions on this one, please post in the appropriate forum.
