MGMAT CAT quant question

by TamerA271 Sun Apr 26, 2015 6:15 pm

I fail to understand how the answer to the below problem is not D.

Patrick is cleaning his house in anticipation of the arrival of guests. He needs to vacuum the floors, fold the laundry, and put away the dishes after the dishwasher completes its cycle. If the dishwasher is currently running and has 55 minutes remaining in its cycle, can Patrick complete all of the tasks before his guests arrive in exactly 1 hour?

(1) Vacuuming the floors and folding the laundry will take Patrick 36 minutes.

(2) Putting away the dishes will take Patrick 7 minutes.

Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.

Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.

Both statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER one ALONE is sufficient.

EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.

Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.

hi,
welcome to the forum... but, before you start posting, please poke around the forum a bit, and get acquainted with its structure.

our CAT problems have their own folder ("Manhattan GMAT CAT Math"). this query belongs in that folder, not in this one.

thank you.

also--

when you re-post your query, please give some details about your own reasoning thus far.

• why do you think the answer is D?

• have you checked out the answer key? if so, WHAT, specifically, from that key is unclear, and/or what are you trying to dispute?

this is important in general-- it's not fair (nor is it particularly useful) just to post an entire problem, without specific commentary as to what you found challenging.
it's especially important for our problems, though, because our problems all come with comprehensive answer keys. if you don't have specific questions (as described above), the best possible response will be something along the lines of "Check out the answer key."
(:

so, please re-post with specifics. thanks.
