* Mixture Problem: Alcohol

by Deepak_J_Shah Sat Mar 28, 2009 12:01 am

Mixture A is 15 percent alcohol, and mixture B is 50 percent alcohol. If the two are poured together to create a 4-gallon mixture that contains 30 percent alcohol, approximately how many gallons of mixture A are in the mixture?
Problem from "BeatTheGmat.com"
A. 1.5
B. 1.7
C. 2.3
D. 2.5
E. 3.0
- How can we solve using the MGMAT way - FDP Strategy Guide - Edition 3 - page 60 (similar but still different).
- "Additional" method would be even better - more the merrier!
- any solution except pluggin in values from the answer would be great
- A complete breakdown in an xls grid would be great! i.e., include quantity for "the other stuff"

* Would be great to have an auto email response when someone responds to the question in the forum - alternatively when whoever is responding to this question can drop a quick email to me then that would be terrific!

Thank you in advance.

Please read (and follow!) the forum guidelines before posting. You must cite the source when posting questions in this folder. Please check the "banned sources" list first to ensure that the source is not on that list.

Teachers cannot reply unless a source is cited. Further, the question itself will be deleted if a source is not cited soon. Thanks!
