Modifier Markers: Subordinators, pg 64 in All the Verbal

by yo4561 Sat Dec 12, 2020 5:57 pm

Hello again my friends! I have a question on the following sentence: "Citizens of many countries are expressing concern about the environmental damage -such as flooding and wildfires -caused by the widespread release of greenhouse gases, damage that may be impossible to reverse."

To confirm, is the "damage that may be impossible to reverse" an adverbial modifier? What type of adverbial modifier is this?

I believe this is a noun modifier called an appositive, which is used to describe a noun with another noun or noun phrase. In this case, damage (caused by widespread release) = damage (that may be impossible to reverse).
