Multiply or Divide One Equation by Another Equation

by hkparikh09 Thu Jul 25, 2013 9:30 am

Does any know of any problems in either the OG or the Quant Supplement book that I can use to practice this strategy?

Example:
Equation 1: x (y^2) = -96

Equation 2: 1/(XY) = 1/24

Multiple the two equations and you are left with y= -4. You can then solve for X.

I think the toughest thing is being able to spot or recognize formulas that you can multiply or divide to ease up the calculations.

You're right that the toughest part is recognizing when you can use this strategy effectively. Unfortunately, if we gave you a list of problems that you could practice this strategy on, we would be robbing you of the aspect of the problem that needs the most attention. Instead, just keep this strategy in mind as one of your options whenever you see two equations.
