Need help with "guessing strategies" especially for DS

by weishao Wed Apr 07, 2010 1:27 pm

I am having trouble with DS more than PS. Sometimes I end up getting one part right while other times i am just not sure. The mgmat book didnt really talk much about guessing and i know sometimes one has to "move on". I have a couple of questions:
1. If i can for sure eliminate A or B resulting in A/B,C,E choice - is there any way i can make an educated guess on it?

2. If I know A or B is right resulting in D/E - is D more frequent than E?

3. if i just have no idea - I tried Es before but most of the time it ends being C/D...

i know the question is a bit vague but sometimes i end up spending too much time trying to figure it out... thanks

Go Through the online lab 1 and Online Lab 2 for data Sufficiency. They teach you all about Data Sufficeincy elimantion tricks.

There are only 2 types of questions:
a) Yes/NO
b) Value type ex- What is the value of x?

Lab 1 explains how to quickly eliminate answers whaich are of value type. Lab 2 explains how to solve and eliminate Yes/NO type questions

Data sufficiency questions need not be solved for an answer. The problem you have stated is: you are able to figure out whether the question can be answered with either of option A or option B. Try to figure out why you are spending too much time in evaluating the other option and work on that. In my humble opinion, question setters are not that cruel forcing you to make guess for DS questions :) Moreover, Guess works and tricks - you cannot rely on all time.
