* Number Properties question

by pratik.mehta Tue Apr 21, 2009 6:00 pm

Is A positive?

1) x^2 -2x + A is positive for all x
2) Ax^2 + 1 is positive for all x

OA: A

For Stmt 1: Below is my approach, but how do we know that Stmt 1 is SUFF?
What if we take the following values:
x= 0 then A = +ve
x= 1 then 1-2+A = +ve
thus, -1 +A = +ve Thus A > 1
x= -1 then 1+2+A = +ve, CAN A here be "-2" then ?

For Stmt 2:
If x =0 then Ax^2 + 1 = +ve, then A in this case can be +ve, -ve or 0 thus NS
