p. 149 official guide 12th ed

Per solution given in the official guide companion, the percent value is plugged in as a number - 40. As far as I know when we talk about x percent of something the number should be plugged as 40/100? This was the only difficulty I had.

i don't see any questions on page 149; can you be more specific about which question you're referring to? be sure not to quote any of the questions of course, because that text is copyrighted by the GMAT..

Just remember this: the word "percent" means "divided by 100". So 40 percent means 40/100. Thus, if a problem says x percent just plug in 40 for x, not 40/100. I hope that this is clear and helpful! :-)
